Because different fish species are caught at various times, it pays to know what types of fish will be in season. If you’re fishing for a specific type of fish, we’ll help you decide when those fish are most likely to be caught in the Gulf. Here’s a brief guide to the various types of fish you can expect to catch throughout the year.

  • The season starts in February. Since the water is colder, many Gulf fish will have migrated to warmer waters. One exception is the Yellowfin Tuna. Yellowfin winter in the area but tend to stay where the water is warmer. That means they’ll cluster around oil rigs or certain rock formations. We track their movements and help our clients land some great fish.

Since the weather determines when the Cobia varieties return, it always pays to stay in touch if you’re looking for an early season deep-sea fishing adventure.
  • By May, the water is warm, and we’ll see great fishing for tuna, Wahoo, and mackerel. White Snapper are also around, and Triggerfish have made their appearance. That means you’ll have plenty of chances to fill your cooler and enjoy some truly great eating or catch that trophy.

  • Medications. That means both prescription medications and over-the-counter products. To be on the safe side, bring some sea sickness medications because we can’t guarantee what types of conditions Mother Nature will toss at us.
  • Appropriate clothing. Because we’ll be in the sun for quite a while, it’s always a good idea to bring clothes that will cover your body to prevent sunburn. That includes a long-sleeve shirt and a wide-brim hat.
  • Don’t forget your camera! On your deep-sea fishing expedition, it’s likely several photo opportunities will come up that you’ll want to capture. Your saltwater fishing trip is bound to be one you’ll want to remember for years to come.
  • We know you’ll need a large ice chest to keep your catch fresh. Ask us about specific recommendations for your trip, as the type of fish we’ll be looking for dictate how much cold storage might be needed.
  • Plan to bring some energy food. Deep-sea fish put up quite a battle, and we want to make sure you’re ready to meet the challenge. Of course, we’re also here if you need help landing a larger fish.
